SIMP for Minor Projects

SIMP for Minor Projects is a practical, proportionate information management resource for small-scale public sector projects (typically under £2 million).

It helps organisations clearly define project information requirements from the outset — strengthening information management during delivery and ensuring a structured, complete and usable handover at completion.

Minor projects often progress without clearly defined information expectations, leading to inconsistent documentation and gaps in asset data. This resource addresses that risk by helping clients focus on what information is required, when it is needed, and in what format. Supported by straightforward guidance and ready-to-use templates, it provides a consistent approach for project teams and suppliers.

The result is better-managed project information throughout delivery — improving coordination, accountability and visibility of required outputs — while also ensuring high-quality handover documentation. This includes appropriate:

  • Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals,
  • compliant Health & Safety files,
  • and a structured asset register.

Asset data can be tailored to integrate with existing estates and facilities management platforms.

Piloting in partnership with an NHS Scotland Board and a local authority has demonstrated stronger engagement and collaboration between project management, estates and asset management teams.
